1) What happens if the weather is bad?
I will say living in Myrtle Beach, especially during the summer months there is a chance of a storm daily but luckily for me, they come and go quickly and usually before your session. Rain is the main reason for any cancelled sessions. I do wait until the day of your session before I make a final decision on whether or not we need to reschedule/cancel based on your needs. If there is a chance of rain, I typically will contact you the day or two before to see if you are able to reschedule just in case but I promise I do everything in my power to keep your original booking!
2) What if my kids won’t cooperate because they are so young?
Having a 1 year old myself and after doing photography for 5 years now, I know that all kids won’t always want to cooperate and listen during your sessions and I honestly don’t expect them to! Every age has its challenges and I work around that during your session as I love all those sweet candid moments.. once we get going, 9 times out of 10, your little one will warm up quickly and if they don’t most of the time you can’t even tell! I stress to parents not to worry and to go with the flow so your little ones don’t feel the tension from you as well. I always remind mom and dad this is just the season of life we are in (myself included) and one day we will want to look back and remember or even laugh at these times! My best advice is to let loose and have fun and I bet you will be surprised with how great your photos turn out.
3) Where do you take photos?
I have a good variety of locations that I have available for you to choose from for your photos and I am always open to any ideas or private locations that you know of as long as photographers are allowed. The key to all locations I choose is the lighting and backdrops/textures that work well during the time of day that I shoot. I prefer evening sun for the style of editing I do! My locations sometimes depend on the season, but in Myrtle Beach, we can pretty much shoot at the beach year round if that’s something you want! My seasonal locations are typically my mini sessions that I sometimes offer which are cotton fields, sunflower/wildflower fields, or the Christmas tree farm. I also just love shooting in fields for fall sessions because of the warm golden tones you get in your photos! All the locations I use are in the Conway, Aynor/Loris, Myrtle Beach + Surrounding Areas, Little River, and Georgetown. I occasionally shoot in Summerville and Charleston areas as well.
4) What time are your sessions?
I always shoot the last hour before sunset. I just prefer the type of lighting and images I am able to capture during this time. It works very well with my editing style and the golden warmth I go for in my images!
5) I have no clue what to wear, can you help?
I love to help, that’s what I’m here for! I will provide a complete guide that goes over a lot of great information to help you choose the perfect outfits for your family and I also use a platform called style and select that can be very helpful and I can assist or walk you through it! You are also welcome to try on clothes I have in my client closet. I always say to dress mom first especially for family photos. I always recommend some kind of dress or flowy skirt. Maxi dresses are my favorite because they are very flattering and add movement to your images. Once mom is dressed and you have chosen your color pallet then I always recommend choosing 2-3 coordinating colors in that color family and mix together solids and patterns. Do not be afraid of patterns! Layers, accessories and jewelry are also a great way to have everyone coordinate.
6) I am not a photogenic person and I feel awkward when I get my picture taken, can you make me look good?
I don’t expect my clients to know everything to do to pose for the camera. It’s also not all about the “posed” shots. I always do a few looking at the camera shots of family, each child, and mom and dad but my focus is the candid moments and all the little details. I will guide you throughout your session and tell you exactly what to do with direct commands and prompts so that we will get natural interactions and laughs. I know to you it probably feels so awkward but these are always my favorite photos, and I bet they will be yours too!
